I am strongly opposed to this toxin being put in my water, but if I felt a democratic process had been in place I would not be so angry with the decision. I don't want my child to get fluorosis or risk any other potential health problems, that I am not convinced do not exist. If there is any uncertainty as to the 100% safety of something, you do not do it on mass. SO17 3SW Michelle Doyle
Not only is fluoride already present in the diet is damaging to bones and teeth there is no evidence to support that adding fluoride to the water will have an effect to dental health. By forcing water companies to add fluoride you are adding a medication to which the population has not consented to taking, breaking their human rights to refuse medication as long as they are capable. 1. Given that there is some evidence fluoridation can be harmful, I should have the right to decide for myself and my family whether they receive fluoride supplements. 2. I don't believe it will solve the problem it is meant to as children with poor dental hygiene drink sugary drinks instead of water and don't brush their teeth regularly enough. 3. The consultation process was a sham and a complete travesty of democracy, the opinions of local people were completely ignored. SO19 9GD Rosie Bowen
I suffer from diabetes and do not wish to have further chemicals added to the normal water supply SO19 9BS Angela E. Blundell
I am totally opposed to the inclusion of flouride being added to the tap water - as I suffer from Arthritis and have enough drugs day by day. SO19 9BS Rex G. Blundell
The SHA was completely biased in their promotion of fluoridation. They did not take into acccount the views of people living in Southampton.Alan Johnson has shamefully promoted this policy, stating that fluoride is completely safe, but Fluoride has NOT been proven to be safe and we do not want a toxic industrial by-product added to the water. It is taking away the personal choice of using flouride, and flouride could have harmful side effects. No one should be made to have it in their water supply. SO40 8TE Sheila Humphrey
I dont want to drink contaminated water SO51 6BP John Hawkins
According to readers posting on the Daily Echo website, the SHA failed to name several districts of Southampton as being part of the fluoridation scheme when they brought out their consultation brochure. Aldermoor, Bitterne Park, Lordswood, Maybush, Highfield, Millbrook, Sholing, Redbridge, Woolston and Bassett are among the districts that weren't on the original list but will now get fluoridated water according to recent information. If you are in any of these areas, you have every right to feel cheated and that's a good enough reason it itself to get the SHA decision reversed. SO17 1EX Jenny Field
I am convinced that the evidence against is more reliable and solid than the (very flimsy) evidence for, and even if this were not the case then the precautionary principle should apply. The distortions and omissions in the propaganda published the health authority and PCT are outrageous and a scandal. It is clear to me that fluoridation will endanger the health of a significant proportion of the population of Southampton and that it is unlikely to do anything to improve the dental health of our children.
