Because on reading all information on adding fluoride I have managed to obtain I cannot fail to object to this very harmful substance being added to my home water supply. There should be an educational drive to educate or penalise the percentage of parents who do not teach dental hygiene to their children. S016 3GE Pat Watkins
Fluoridation is the forced medication of entire populations against their will, without choice and without escape. It is a violation of human right and a violation of medical ethics. It is unsafe, it is not beneficial as it is now recognised that fluoride only works when applied topically. It is not cost effective and it does not equalize dental health between rich and poor. These claims and the claims of safety and health benefit by the PCT and SHA are entirely false and are now under investigation. The consultation is being run improperly and should be stopped immediately before any more public money is wasted. Fluoridation should be thrown out right away and replaced with safer, more beneficial and and properly costed policies. SP11 7LW Les Johnson
Why you don't want your water to be fluoridated? Because, historically, the driving factor behind the suggestion that water be fluoridated, which first occurred in the US was Industry avoidance of costly lawsuits. This has nothing to do with dental health or any kind of health. The same groups who were working for corporations like ALCOA (The aluminum company of America whose process waste was largely fluoride), Du Pont , Monsanto, Reynold Metals etc, were the ones who had defended Asbestos and latterly leaded fuel against numerous legal claims due to their (known)toxicity. Please look at this documentary, interviewing a former BBC producer and award-winning journalist whose research on the subject lasted 10 years. Called the fluoride deception it is a damning enditement of a corporate system who would rather bury evidence than worry about the effect on children of their pollution. Curiously this '1ppm is safe' is chanted to this day. Not even the environmentalists know this aspect of their history. http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=fluoride+deception&emb=0# SO40 4XU Ben Duffett
I have relatives in fluoridated West Midlands and their health is far from good. Neither is their teeth. SO40 2NL Joan
I do not want fluoride in any water supply because it has proven health risks linked to and / or causing the lowering of IQ in children, Alzheimer's, osteosarcoma and other cancers, kidney and thyroid diseases, brittle bones and other skeletal diseases. It is a proven endocryne disrupter. It causes dental fluorosis which is a manifestation of systemic toxicity. The American and British Dental Associations have both officially stated that fluoridated water should not be given to infants and young children and it should not be used to make up baby formula, therefore it cannot be a public health measure. Fluoridation does not equalize dental health between rich and poor (see the York Review). It is not cost effective (see The Other Side of the Coin by C.K Holdcroft). Fluoride is only beneficial when applied topically and is known to have harmful effects when ingested. It is unethical. Fluoridation is mass medication and a violation of human rights, forcing medication on individuals against their will, without consent, choice or escape. Fluoridation is a violation of medical ethics. The PCT and SHA have conducted a deceptive and arguably illegal consultation by ommiting and / or misrepresenting the facts. They have denied the public the means with which to make an informed choice on something where their consent has been denied. They have deliberately disenfranchised people by demanding that only peer reviewed scientific evidence will be considered. This negates all arguments regarding the ethical nature of fluoridation. The ethical argument is fundamental to our democracy and it is one on which everyone has a right to express an opinion. The PCT and SHA are now under investigation and questions are being asked in Parliament. Legal action against those individuals deceptively promoting fluoridation, and their actions in denying the right to express a view on ethics, is now being discussed. Legal actions are already being prepared in America. SP11 7LW Jennifer Godschall Johnson
Because fluoride cannot break down in the body, it’s just as bad in toothpaste but at least you manage to spit most of that out ! Fluoride in my system at my age of 24 is going to give me so many problems when I turn 50 ! It’s all money, money, money, to these companies who sell these chemicals to go into products. There are so many things the public are hidden away from and fluoride is just one of the little dangerous things that are hushed away BUT the government say .. think of the children! if we add this chemical to the water then the public will think we care enough about them and we will be getting a lovely profit in our pockets ! BONUS !!! My boss who comes from up north said that there has been fluoride in their water since he was very young. he is in his 50's, his wife is dying and he doesn't have any of his own teeth left !! Saying something ! SO31 8HP Lisa
There is no need to add this chemical to water supplies when there are much more effective ways of reducing tooth decay in young children. As more evidence is emerging of potential health risks, it makes sense to use the precautionary principle. It is unethical and deeply unpopular. SO17 1PF Anna Peckham
Because it is not safe medically, causes cancer, discolours teeth, has not been properly researched, am against mass medication etc. SO40 2LF Jane Page
Because of the health risks, the staining of teeth, the enforced medication issues, morality issues and more.... SO53 1UA Mark Edmunds
